Alternatives to Aquanatal Yoga
In light of the social restriction advice, many “in person” classes and groups have moved their services online. Unfortunately our fabulous aquanatal yoga classes are currently suspended, because apparently you can’t teach pregnancy yoga in the water via Skype from your bathtub! Haha!
Below is a group - local to Small Acorn - that are now providing meet ups/classes online.
If you’re out of our area, check your local groups and services to see if they can offer you a way to remain active and social with other mums during pregnancy, regardless of isolation restrictions.
InJoy Yoga
Based in Croydon, InJoy are now providing their wonderfully relaxing pregnancy yoga classes and more via Zoom. To receive all the benefits of these classes from the comfort of your own home. At Injoy Yoga, all the teachers have undergone the same training Bev has, but for "dry land" yoga, and is also who Bev went to whilst she was pregnant. Highly recommended.
Resources and COVID-19 Guidance
As the NHS and Government guidance around COVID-19 rapidly changes, it can be difficult to keep up with the latest information.
To reduce the spread of COVID-19, many hospitals are amending their protocols regarding antenatal, intrapartum (during labour/birth) and postnatal care. It’s likely you’ve already experienced a change in the way you interact with your care providers, with further changes likely as the situation around COVID-19 progresses.
Most trusts are now offering antenatal and postnatal appointments via telephone, if the woman and/or baby does not need to be seen in person.
In labour, most women are being limited to just 1 birth partner, with no swapping or coming/going from the birth room for the duration of labour. Some choice of place of birth options may also be unavailable, depending on staff levels at the time.
After birth, families who are fit and healthy are encouraged to return home as soon as possible, sometimes as little as 2-3 hours post birth. Self isolation for a number of weeks post birth for all those who live in the same house as the newborn is also recommended.
To help you get informed about COVID-19 and how it will affect the antenatal, labour and postnatal care you’ll receive, we’ve created a list of websites and/or telephone numbers for you to find answers to your questions.
With Small Acorn being based in Croydon, one of the following resources is local to us. Regardless of where you’re based, be sure to contact your hospital or speak to your midwife about how COVID-19 will affect your care.

Postnatal Help and Support
Feeding your baby
Support is so important in the early days and weeks of feeding your baby, and with the added confusion around COVID-19 you may have questions - now more than ever - about how to safely feed your baby. With the temporary closure of face to face feeding support groups, many are feeling alone with their questions and struggles.
We want you to know there is help!
Below is a list of places you can go for trusted information and guidance about feeding your baby. Having used a feeding helpline myself, I know how important it is to have someone (mostly volunteers) at the end of the phone to reassure you that everything will be ok.
Also, it is worth contacting your local IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) who may be able to provide support over the phone or via Skype/Zoom etc.
If you’re struggling or have questions about feeding and COVID-19, please reach out for support because someone is waiting to help you.
