Fun Fact Friday – Week 2

Babies can drink and breathe simultaneously!

Babies can drink and breathe simultaneously, but only for the first few months of life.

In febrile infants (0-3months), the larynx sits up high in the nasal cavity like a snorkel, this is to enable babies to drink and breathe at the same time.

At approximately three months of age, the larynx “drops” much lower in the throat. This makes choking easier but speech possible.
